Title: Fostering Innovation and Enterprise through Industry Partnerships
Some insights on fostering collaboration with industry with the objective of promoting innovation and enterprise in an academic environment will be provided. These include early innovation and enterprise initiatives gleaned from the Singapore-MIT Alliance programs and some effective approaches of establishing university-industry collaborations. Finally, ways to promote innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship in the Singapore context will be discussed.
Biography
Professor Chee-Yoon Yue is Director, NUS Enterprise at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is Academic Director for MSc (Venture Creation) and NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC). He was full professor at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore from 1990-2021, holding senior leadership positions including Associate Provost-Graduate Education, Founding Dean of the Interdisciplinary Graduate School, Founding Director of the Institute for Sports Research, Programme Chair - Manufacturing Systems & Technology - Singapore-MIT Alliance, and Dean of School. He was Visiting Scientist at MIT (2009-2010). He is in the World’s Top 2% Scientist (2022) by Clarivate Analytics. He started his academic career in 1983 at HKU. His Bachelor’s and PhD degrees in materials engineering are from Monash University, Australia.
He was awarded the Singapore Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2002. He is Member of Dean’s Advisory Council, Monash University Faculty of Engineering Australia, and Deputy Chairman of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Engineering Advisory Committee. He is Fellow of the Academy of Engineering Singapore and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore.
